MP3 Encoding From A Great Distance #

by why in inspect

Okay, focus. We’re lookin for more real-world tutorials, remember?

How about a distributed MP3 encoder which pipes data through DRb to a list of clients empowered with LAME? Needs more filler text and hand-holding, but the code is certainly adequate.

See this is it: someone could read this tutorial, learn Ruby, and then proceed to actually use the script they’ve just written.

Update: four parts have been finished and this tutorial is now mirrored at RubyGarden. (In case you find this entry in the future: Hi, future.)

Oi, it’s the author speaking—I haven’t actually yet tested if the code works at all. I mean, it certainly should. If not now, then after a couple hours of debugging.

Check out the latter parts of the tutorial (still writing; as they come, etc)

Tested, found bugs, fixed them. For the first two parts. Parts three and four to go, tread there at your own peril.
