Here’s more junkmation toon disaster footage from The Cups. Sequel to the first episode, where a guy gets a new computer and this other lady gets an e-mail.

My grandma’s casio synth piano played one of the background tracks. Just after the crashed robot sailor. Awesome.

That’s a special relationship when a grandma will share so freely of her demo tracks with her young.

My god, it’s full of stars.

PS: The first guy on the tape recorder sounds like Mr. Malsky

Gem! I spottend Gem (the Windowing system from Digital Research, used on Atari ST’s back in the day ) in the future. So Atari ST’s will be in the future?

Everything is in the future, right now!

said on 27 Jul 2006 at 22:28

<|:{: Yes, as you saw, Gem will enjoy a short rebirth among birds, after it becomes beak-enabled.

Hoo man, I really shouldn’t have watched that right after waking up. I look forward to the day when I can torrent butter straight to my waffles—don’t let me down, why!

You know, it would be nice to have a “start” button on the animation rather than having it start automatically. As great as it is, it’s a bit much when you just want to drop in and comment on the thread.

Why just needs to set the “play” param/attr on the object/embed to “false” and it won’t start unless you right-click->play.

For stop/play buttons (JavaScript):

var fobj, fembed;
function find_flash(id) {
  if (!fobj && !fembed) {
    fobj   = document.getElementById(id);
    fembed = fobj.childNodes[15];
/* for general use this should be
getElementsByTagName('embed')[0],
but childNode lookup is quicker if
you know the index */
  }
}
function start_flash() {
  find_flash('edit');
  if (typeof(fobj.Play) == 'function') {
    fobj.Play();
  } else {
    fembed.Play();
  }
}
function stop_flash() {
  find_flash('edit');
  if (typeof(fobj.StopPlay) == 'function') {
    fobj.StopPlay();
    /* fobj.Rewind(); // rewind clip */
  } else {
    fembed.StopPlay();
    /* fembed.Rewind(); // rewind clip */
  }
}

There’s also a standards-compliant way to embed the flash clip without needing the embed tag, which makes the JS simpler for play/stop, but it also requires a loader movie for streaming to work in IE (otherwise IE buffers the whole clip before it plays). Check out the article about it on A List Apart.

stupid future.

do you think maybe, mr. y, that the future could be like… be everyone except John (well and I think the amish want out too).

That would be great because I wouldn’t have to take out the trash and stuff.

Thanks for the wonderful birthday gift! Loved this at Rails Conf. And now you launched it on the net on my big B-Day.
