Fredrik Lundh: I must admit that I find all the guidology in the wake of the rumoured “I like Django” BDFL announcement rather amusing. has the python community always looked this silly from the outside?

Well, you know, Fredrik—haven’t we all looked that silly from the outside? (I guess that’s the nice feeling you get in hoodwink.d: There is no outside.)

Whoops, apologies to eff, I had all kinds of extra letters in there.

I am happy to see Guido endorse Django as the definitive python web framework. As a former Rails developer who has happily converted to Django recently, I think it can only be a good thing (for Django and for Rails just the same) if there is one preferred way of creating webapps in python.

BDFL endorsement doesn’t mean much, really. Language designers are often not the best website/app designers. Check out Guido’s personal page for proof (it’s gawky and proud of it!). I think jesusphreak’s rundown (esp. the links to different frameworks) might be more useful. People are going to use what is best suited to their deployment environment (at least the smart ones will), simple as that.

And, BTW , I once stood outside hoodwink.d for like three days waiting for tickets, and they were all sold out, but they did give me a chunky-bacon-flavored popcicle. It was worth it.
