Matz Bored With Ruby, Moves On, Everyone Change Your Cloaks to Green
I’m pleased to announce you the first public release of emerald 0.1.
Emerald is an object oriented language with constraints and logic features, inspired from prolog, Oz, CSP and Hyper/J.
I started this as an hack since ruby is becoming less fun. It will not be as good as ruby, but please try it out while we wait for Rite.
This is alpha stuff, I wasn’t able to load it onto anything with an x86 processor. I had to pull out one of my old solid-state frying pans—but now I’m cooking.
Lots of great reaction from the community, who understandably have questions aplenty:
Hal Fulton asks, “Very nice… but will it scale?”
Tom Copeland says, “I feel gillty for recommending Ruby now.”
Good stuff but my favorite is Matz’ mission statement above:
It will not be as good as ruby, but please try it out.
Matz reveals: this was not him!
Of course, I didn’t make such a language, it’s obvious that the message is a lie if you see the link. What is important is that I didn’t write this E-mail. Anyone can’t understand unless seeing Message-Id, or notice there is no period after signature of “matz”. Because fml converts the time zone into JST, I think the credibility goes up rather. Excellent quite.
If I remember right there was a false announce by my name before, I can’t find it.
Translated from ~matz by babie, who is great.
