Praggies' Rails Book Selling to the Impatient #

by why in cult

A week after discussion concerning the possibility of releasing the new Rails books—a five-author tag-team extravaganza—as a beta product, Dave Thomas has dangled it out there, yes, it’s up for your consumption. The PDF+Book combo will get you the preliminary PDF made available just within the past few hours. Later, Dave’ll ship you the final version and give you a new PDF as well.

Allegedly, the PDF he’s offering now is pretty rough—I haven’t seen it, so I can’t say. Anyone want to offer an informal review? If you finish the book and want to write up a summary, please. Send to the RedHanded e-mail and I’ll post it up. (spotted on PragDave.)

Honestly, the book looks really, really good. Sure, if you look hard enough you can see the rough edges Dave referred to—widows, orphans, figures split across pages, and so forth—but overall, the book looks beautiful.

I agree. A fair number of typos and grammatical errors can be found but nothing that really ruins the book. The final book should be pretty error free considering the number of “editors” they now have.

I have a very informal review over at my website. The PDF isn’t that rough. I think Dave hasn’t incorporated all the feedback from early reviewers, let alone the legion who got the Beta book.
