My first Ruby was also 1.6.4 -- I discovered Ruby in the early fall of 2001.

My first Ruby was 1.8.0 in October 2003; but that was just an experiment in dynamic languages comparison, since at that time I was more involved into Python learning. Then, I finally picked up 1.8.1 in September 2004 (almost an year later!) and started taking it more seriously by using whatever attracted my interest (Hobix, Fit, Ruby Quizzes, the PickAxe2 book and some initial chapters of your Poignant Guide) as a chance to learn.

Mine was 1.6.8. I feel so new to all this. ;)

Mine was 1.4.x (late 1999ish), but 1.6.7 was when I really picked it up.

I think mine was 1.6.7 also. Maybe a bit earlier than that. :-) Rite? :-)

IIRC I started with 1.6.1 late 2000. And when “Programming Ruby” (the pickaxe) became available in my local bookstore early 2001 I started using it more and more…
