RedHanded

Nearing RubyGems 0.9.0 #

by why in inspect

Hobbyists and testers, come on:

 gem update --system --source http://onestepback.org/betagems

Notable changes:

  • Incremental updates from the source index.
  • Installs Ri docs for you.
  • Call gem unpack on files directly.
  • And, well, 0.0.0 is now a valid version.

If you’re also testing with YARV-HEAD, here’s a patch you can apply against RubyGems CVS. There’s something wrong with the TarReaderEntry stream. Or zlib. One of those.

Snipped from the otherwise successful installation over here:

hook
C:/prog/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rubygems-update-0.8.99/./post-install.rb failed:
undefined method `post_install_message'
for #< Gem::Specification:0x325cbf0 >

Oh, does the preceding chunk of message mean that the RubyGems update uses “its new self”? The missing method “post_install_message”, is that a new thing?
